Clonazepam enhances the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that reduces neuronal excitability. Escitalopram increases the extracellular levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in mood regulation. The combination aims to address both anxiety symptoms (clonazepam's immediate effect) and underlying mood disturbances (escitalopram's longer-term effect).
