Glimepiride

A sulfonylurea drug that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin.

Metformin

A biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production by the liver.

Pioglitazone

A thiazolidinedione (tzd) that enhances insulin sensitivity by acting on cells in your muscles, fat, and liver.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels.

Used in patients with inadequate glycemic control on metformin alone or in combination with other oral hypoglycemic agents.

This combination medication works through a synergistic mechanism. Glimepiride increases insulin secretion, metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production, and pioglitazone enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity. This combined action leads to improved blood glucose control.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C) in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage is determined by a healthcare professional based on individual needs and response. It should be initiated at a low dose and titrated upwards as needed.

Take with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects (especially metformin).

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include dizziness, sweating, shakiness, and confusion.

Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain (more common with metformin).

Weight gain (pioglitazone).

Fluid retention (pioglitazone).

Allergic reactions (rare but possible).

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Limit alcohol intake while taking this medication.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Hypoglycemia can impair cognitive function and reflexes. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience symptoms of low blood sugar.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Consult your doctor immediately about using this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Generally, this medication is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.



Children

Generally not recommended for use in children.



Kidney

Metformin is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease. Kidney function should be monitored regularly.



Liver

Pioglitazone can cause liver damage. Liver function tests are often recommended before and during treatment.
