Empagliflozin

A sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (sglt2) inhibitor that works by increasing the excretion of glucose in the urine.

Metformin

A biguanide that lowers blood glucose levels by decreasing glucose production by the liver and increasing insulin sensitivity.

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve glycemic control when metformin alone is insufficient.

May be used in combination with other diabetes medications as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

This combination drug works through two distinct pathways. Empagliflozin blocks the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, leading to increased glucose excretion in the urine. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake by peripheral tissues.

Store at room temperature (below 25°C) in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Typically taken orally with or without food.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): More likely if used with other diabetes medications or insulin.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Limit alcohol intake while taking this medication.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Hypoglycemia can impair alertness and coordination. Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing hypoglycemic symptoms.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor for alternative treatment options.



Children

Not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function; dosage adjustment may be necessary.



Liver

Use with caution in patients with impaired liver function; monitoring may be required.
