A sulfonylurea oral hypoglycemic agent that stimulates insulin release from the pancreas.
A biguanide oral hypoglycemic agent that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in patients who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with metformin monotherapy.
Treatment of type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise are insufficient to control blood sugar levels.
Glimepiride stimulates insulin secretion from the beta-cells of the pancreas, while metformin enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reduces hepatic glucose production. The combination provides a synergistic effect in lowering blood glucose levels.
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Dosage should be individualized based on the patient's response and other medical conditions. Always follow your doctor's prescription.
Start with a low dose and gradually increase as tolerated to achieve optimal glycemic control.
Take with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Gastrointestinal disturbances: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain (more common with metformin).
Lactic acidosis (rare but serious): Characterized by muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, and abdominal discomfort. Seek immediate medical attention if suspected.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Symptoms include dizziness, sweating, shakiness, confusion, and rapid heartbeat.
Weight gain (possible with glimepiride)
Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, hives.
Alcohol consumption should be limited as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.
Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing hypoglycemia.
Generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor.
Not indicated for use in children.
Metformin should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Dosage adjustment may be necessary.
Use with caution in patients with liver disease. Regular monitoring of liver function may be required.
