Povidone Iodine

Povidone-iodine is a complex of iodine and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Iodine is the active antimicrobial agent, while PVP acts as a carrier, releasing iodine gradually.Different formulations may contain additional excipients like surfactants or humectants to improve its properties.

Povidone-iodine's antimicrobial action is primarily due to iodine's ability to disrupt the function of microbial proteins and nucleic acids, leading to cell death. The PVP carrier ensures a slow release of iodine, extending its antimicrobial effectiveness.

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the solution is discolored or contains particulate matter.

Apply a thin layer of povidone-iodine solution to the affected area.

For wound cleaning, gently cleanse the wound with the solution.

Frequency of application varies depending on the condition and severity, always follow the doctor's advice.

Avoid prolonged or extensive application to large areas of skin

Mild skin irritation (redness, itching, burning) at the application site.

Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Generally considered safe for topical use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when applied in accordance with doctor's guidelines, however, always inform your doctor.



Children

Use only as directed by a doctor or healthcare professional, as children may have more sensitive skin.



Kidney

Patients with impaired kidney function should use with caution and under medical supervision, as iodine is primarily excreted by the kidneys.



Liver

Topical application has minimal systemic absorption, so no significant liver effects are expected.
