Bethanechol

Chloride is the active ingredient in medications containing bethanechol.

Treatment of urinary retention (difficulty emptying the bladder) due to functional obstruction.

Treatment of neurogenic bladder dysfunction (bladder problems due to nerve damage).

Treatment of postoperative abdominal distention (gas buildup after surgery), although less common now.

Urotone Ds Tab (Bethanechol) is a cholinergic agonist. It mimics the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, by stimulating muscarinic receptors in the bladder and gastrointestinal tract. This stimulation increases bladder contractions and promotes urination. It also increases gastrointestinal motility.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any medication that is expired or shows signs of discoloration or deterioration.

Dosage is determined by your doctor and is individualized based on your condition and response to treatment.

It's typically taken orally, but forms for injection exist and are administered only by a healthcare professional.

Alcohol Consumption

Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is generally avoided unless the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Consult your doctor.



Children

Use in children is generally not recommended unless specifically prescribed by a pediatrician.



Kidney

Patients with significant kidney impairment should use bethanechol with caution as it may be poorly metabolized. Dosage adjustments may be necessary.



Liver
