Is the active ingredient in medications used to manage type 2 diabetes.
Vildagliptin is used in combination with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Ultravid 100mg Tablet (Vildagliptin) works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP) in the body. These hormones help to increase insulin release from the pancreas and reduce glucagon release, ultimately lowering blood sugar levels.
Store vildagliptin tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
The usual starting dose of vildagliptin is 50 mg once daily.
Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose for you based on your individual needs and response to treatment.
Take vildagliptin tablets with a meal.
Do not crush or chew vildagliptin tablets.
Common side effects of vildagliptin include upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nasal passages and throat).
Serious side effects are rare, but can include pancreatitis, allergic reactions, and liver problems.
Drinking alcohol while taking vildagliptin may increase the risk of low blood sugar levels. Talk to your doctor about how much alcohol is safe for you to consume.
Vildagliptin does not typically cause drowsiness or dizziness, but be cautious as you adjust to the medication.
Vildagliptin should not be used during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is unknown if vildagliptin passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking vildagliptin while breastfeeding.
Vildagliptin is not approved for use in children.
Patients with kidney problems may need a lower dose of vildagliptin. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function while taking vildagliptin.
Patients with liver problems should use vildagliptin with caution. Your doctor will monitor your liver function while taking vildagliptin.
