Tranylcypromine is the active ingredient in medications like Parnate.It belongs to a class of drugs called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), especially when other antidepressants haven't been effective.
Occasionally used for atypical depression characterized by anxiety and agitation.
Trivon 10mg Tab (Tranylcypromine) works by inhibiting the activity of monoamine oxidase (MAO), an enzyme that breaks down neurotransmitters like norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin in the brain. By blocking MAO, tranylcypromine increases the levels of these neurotransmitters, which can improve mood and alleviate depressive symptoms.
Store tranylcypromine at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Dosage is typically started low and gradually increased as needed.
It's usually taken once or twice a day, with or without food.
Your doctor will determine the right dosage for you based on your individual needs and response to the medication.
More serious side effects can include: high blood pressure, liver problems, seizures, and serotonin syndrome (a potentially life-threatening condition).
Common side effects include: dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, headache, tremors, and weight gain.
Avoid alcohol while taking tranylcypromine as it can increase the risk of side effects and interactions.
Tranylcypromine can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
Tranylcypromine can harm an unborn baby. It's not recommended for pregnant women. It's also not recommended for breastfeeding women as it can pass into breast milk.
Tranylcypromine is not approved for use in children.
Caution is advised in patients with kidney problems.
