An angiotensin ii receptor blocker (arb) that helps relax blood vessels.
A calcium channel blocker that also helps relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure.
A thiazide diuretic that increases urine production to lower blood volume and blood pressure.
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
May be used in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with other medications
This combination medication works by lowering blood pressure through three different mechanisms. Losartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels. Amlodipine relaxes blood vessels by blocking the entry of calcium into muscle cells. Chlorthalidone increases urine output, reducing blood volume and thus blood pressure.
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
Dosage should be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and health condition.
Take the medication exactly as prescribed. Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
The medication is usually taken once daily, with or without food.
Cough (less common with ARBs than ACE inhibitors)
Increased risk of falls (especially in elderly patients)
Rare but serious side effects: angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), liver problems, low blood pressure
Dizziness
Lightheadedness
Headache
Fatigue
Nausea
Muscle cramps
Swelling in the ankles or feet
Alcohol may increase the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness. Limit alcohol consumption while taking this medication.
May cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially at the start of treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Losartan is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Safety and efficacy in children have not been established.
Caution is advised in patients with kidney disease. Dosage adjustment may be necessary.
