Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially those who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with metformin monotherapy.

This combination therapy works synergistically. Metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production. Linagliptin enhances the action of incretin hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, leading to improved glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppression of glucagon secretion. This combined action results in better blood sugar control.
