Tobramycin

Is an aminoglycoside antibiotic.

Tobramycin is used to treat serious bacterial infections, including:

Infections of the lungs (pneumonia)

Infections of the urinary tract

Infections of the skin

Infections of the blood (bacteremia)

Infections of the abdomen

Infections of the central nervous system (meningitis)

Tosana Injection (Tobramycin) works by killing bacteria that cause infection. It does this by binding to the ribosomes of bacteria, which are responsible for protein synthesis. This prevents the bacteria from producing the proteins they need to survive and grow.

Store tobramycin at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not freeze tobramycin.

The dosage of tobramycin will depend on the type of infection you have, your age, weight, and overall health. It is important to take tobramycin exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Tobramycin is usually given by injection into a vein (intravenously). It can also be given by injection into a muscle (intramuscularly) or by inhalation.

The duration of treatment will depend on the severity of your infection and your response to treatment.

The most common side effects of tobramycin include:

Nausea

Vomiting

Diarrhea

Dizziness

Headache

Rash

Itching

Pain at the injection site

Hearing loss

Kidney problems

Nerve damage

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking tobramycin, as it can increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Tobramycin can cause dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Tobramycin is not recommended for pregnant women. It is not known whether tobramycin passes into breast milk, so it is best to avoid breastfeeding while taking this medicine.



Children

Tobramycin is not recommended for children unless the benefits outweigh the risks.



Kidney

Tobramycin can be harmful to the kidneys. If you have kidney problems, you may need a lower dose of tobramycin or you may need to take it less often.



Liver

Tobramycin does not have any known effects on the liver.
