Atorvastatin

A statin medication that lowers cholesterol levels in the blood by blocking an enzyme (hmg-coa reductase) responsible for cholesterol production in the liver.

Nicotinic Acid

A b vitamin that also lowers cholesterol levels, primarily by reducing ldl (bad) cholesterol and raising hdl (good) cholesterol.

To lower high cholesterol levels (hyperlipidemia) in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and exercise alone.

To reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular events in patients with high cholesterol and other risk factors.

0 Atorvastatin: By inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, atorvastatin reduces the production of cholesterol in the liver. This leads to a decrease in LDL (bad) cholesterol and an increase in HDL (good) cholesterol.1 Nicotinic Acid: Nicotinic acid works by lowering the production of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and increasing the breakdown of LDL. It also enhances HDL (good) cholesterol levels.

Common Side Effects: Headache, muscle aches, nausea, stomach upset, flushing (redness of the face and neck), itching.

Serious Side Effects: Liver problems, muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis), pancreatitis, diabetes, neurological problems.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol consumption while taking this medication can increase the risk of liver damage. It is recommended to limit alcohol intake.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

This medication should not be taken during pregnancy as it may harm the unborn baby. It is also not recommended for breastfeeding women as the medication can pass into breast milk.



Children

This medication is not recommended for children under 10 years of age. It is not typically prescribed for children unless they have a specific medical condition.



Kidney
