Levodopa crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa inhibits the peripheral decarboxylation of levodopa, increasing the amount of levodopa that reaches the brain and reducing side effects associated with peripheral dopamine.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.

Children

Generally not used in children unless specifically indicated by a physician.



Kidney

Dosage adjustment may be needed for individuals with kidney impairment. Your physician will monitor your kidney function closely.



Liver

Levodopa/Carbidopa is primarily metabolized in the kidneys, thus hepatic impairment may require cautious dosing but is not typically a primary contraindication. Close monitoring of treatment response is needed.
