Atazanavir

A protease inhibitor that blocks the hiv enzyme needed to produce new viruses.

Lamivudine

A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nrti) that prevents hiv from replicating.

Ritonavir

A protease inhibitor used as a booster to increase the blood levels of atazanavir.

Tenofovir

A nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (ntrti) that also prevents hiv replication.

Treatment of HIV1 infection in adults and children (with specific weight and age considerations).

This combination therapy works by targeting different stages of the HIV life cycle. Atazanavir and ritonavir inhibit the HIV protease, preventing the virus from assembling new infectious particles. Lamivudine and tenofovir inhibit reverse transcriptase, an enzyme essential for HIV to replicate its genetic material.

Store at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C). Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children. Dispose of unused medication properly following local guidelines.

The medication is usually taken orally, with or without food (depending on specific formulation).

Missed doses should be taken as soon as possible unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not take a double dose.

Children

Use in children is possible, but strict adherence to weight-based dosage instructions from the physician is essential.



Kidney

Kidney function should be monitored regularly, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney disease. Tenofovir can affect kidney function.



Liver

Liver function should be monitored regularly. The combination may increase the risk of liver damage.
