Piperacillin

A broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic.

Treatment of various bacterial infections, including intraabdominal infections, gynecological infections (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease), skin and skin structure infections, pneumonia, bacteremia, and sepsis.

Treatment of infections caused by susceptible gramnegative and gram-positive bacteria.

Piperacillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. Tazobactam prevents the inactivation of piperacillin by bacterial beta-lactamases, extending the drug's effectiveness against bacteria that would otherwise be resistant.

Store at controlled room temperature (20-25°C). Protect from light and moisture. Discard any unused portion after the expiry date.

Dosage varies depending on the type and severity of infection, patient's age, weight, and renal function.

Administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) as directed by a physician.

Children

Dosage is adjusted based on weight and age, as prescribed by the physician.



Kidney

Dosage adjustment is often necessary for patients with impaired renal function. Close monitoring of renal function is required.



Liver

Liver function should be monitored, especially during prolonged treatment. Report any signs of liver damage (e.g., jaundice, dark urine) to your physician immediately.
