Sulbactam is a type of drug called a beta-lactamase inhibitor.

This combination medication works by killing bacteria that cause infections.

Bacterial infections of the lungs (pneumonia)

Cefotaxime kills bacteria by interfering with the formation of their cell walls. Sulbactam protects cefotaxime from being broken down by an enzyme produced by some bacteria, which allows cefotaxime to be more effective in fighting infections.

Store Cefotaxime + Sulbactam at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.

The dosage of Cefotaxime + Sulbactam will depend on the type and severity of your infection, your age, and your overall health.

This medication is typically given by intravenous (IV) injection or infusion.

It is important to take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking the medication early, even if you feel better, unless instructed by your doctor.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time.

Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Cefotaxime + Sulbactam should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the developing fetus. It is not known if cefotaxime + sulbactam passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor about the risks and benefits of breastfeeding while taking this medication.



Children

The safety and effectiveness of Cefotaxime + Sulbactam in children have not been established.



Kidney
