Teicoplanin

Is a glycopeptide antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

Teicoplanin is used to treat serious bacterial infections, including:

Skin and soft tissue infections

Bone and joint infections

Endocarditis (infection of the heart lining)

Pneumonia

Peritonitis (infection of the lining of the abdomen)

Sepsis (blood infection)

Teicoplanin is also used to prevent bacterial infections in people who are at high risk, such as those who have had surgery or who have a weakened immune system.

Targocid 200mg Inj (Teicoplanin) is a glycopeptide antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to the D-alanyl-D-alanine residues of peptidoglycan precursors, preventing the formation of cross-links in the bacterial cell wall. This leads to cell death and the elimination of the infection.

Teicoplanin should be stored at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C. Keep it in the original container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children and pets. Do not use teicoplanin after the expiration date printed on the label.

The dosage of teicoplanin will vary depending on the type of infection being treated, the patient's age, weight, and kidney function, and the severity of the infection. Teicoplanin is usually given by intravenous (IV) infusion, but it can also be given by intramuscular (IM) injection.

Your doctor will determine the correct dosage and duration of treatment for you.

It's essential to take teicoplanin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking teicoplanin without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better.

Like all medications, teicoplanin can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them.

Alcohol Consumption

While Driving or Operating Machinery

Teicoplanin can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion in some people. If you experience any of these side effects, avoid driving or operating machinery until they subside.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Teicoplanin should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is unknown if teicoplanin passes into breast milk, so it is generally not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.



Children

Teicoplanin is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age, unless specifically prescribed by a doctor.



Kidney

Teicoplanin is eliminated by the kidneys. Patients with kidney problems may need a lower dosage or more frequent monitoring of their kidney function.



Liver

Teicoplanin is not metabolized by the liver. However, it can cause liver problems in some people, so it is important to monitor liver function during treatment.
