Tacrolimus

Tacrolimus is the active ingredient in the medication.It is available in various formulations, including tablets, capsules, oral solutions, and topical ointments.

Organ transplantation (kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas) to prevent organ rejection

Severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) when other treatments have failed

Treatment of graftversus-host disease (GVHD) after bone marrow transplantation

Tacrol 0.5mg Capsule (Tacrolimus) is an immunosuppressant that works by suppressing the activity of the immune system. It binds to a protein called FKBP12, which then inhibits the production of certain signaling molecules that are important for immune cell activation. By reducing immune activity, tacrolimus helps to prevent the body from rejecting transplanted organs or attacking its own tissues in autoimmune disorders.

Store tacrolimus at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Do not flush unused medication down the toilet or pour it into a drain unless instructed by your healthcare provider.

The dosage of tacrolimus is determined by your doctor and will vary based on your individual needs and the condition being treated.

Tacrolimus is typically taken twice a day, with or without food.

It is important to take tacrolimus exactly as prescribed by your doctor and to avoid missing doses.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Common side effects: Tremor, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, increased blood sugar, hair loss, acne, skin rash, kidney problems, high blood pressure

Serious side effects: Infection, seizures, heart problems, liver damage, diabetes, cancer, depression, suicidal thoughts

Allergic reactions: Hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol while taking tacrolimus as it may increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Tacrolimus can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how tacrolimus affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Tacrolimus can be harmful to a developing baby. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take tacrolimus unless advised by their doctor.



Children

The use of tacrolimus in children is not recommended unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
