Levodopa crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa prevents the peripheral breakdown of levodopa, increasing the amount available to the brain, thus improving motor control and reducing Parkinson's disease symptoms.
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
Dosage is individualized and determined by a physician based on the patient's response and tolerability.
Typically started at a low dose and gradually increased as needed.
Administered orally, usually with or without food.
Dosage regimens may involve multiple doses per day.
