Mycophenolate Mofetil

Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is the active ingredient in this medication.It's a type of immunosuppressant medication.

Prevention of organ rejection after a kidney, heart, or liver transplant.

Treatment of severe, active lupus nephritis (kidney inflammation) in adults.

MMF works by suppressing the immune system's ability to attack the transplanted organ or the body's own tissues in cases of lupus nephritis. It does this by interfering with the production of certain white blood cells involved in immune responses.

Store MMF at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not flush unused medication down the toilet or pour it into a drain.

The dosage of MMF is determined by your doctor and will vary depending on your condition, weight, and other factors.

It's usually taken twice a day, with or without food.

It's important to take MMF exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it without first talking to your doctor.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it's almost time for your next dose. Never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Serious side effects are possible and can include infection, high blood pressure, kidney problems, and increased risk of certain cancers.

Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, and low white blood cell count.

Alcohol Consumption

While drinking alcohol in moderation is generally okay for most people, it's advisable to avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking MMF, as it can potentially worsen some side effects.



Driving or Operating Machinery

MMF can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Therefore, it's recommended to avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you. If you experience these effects, do not drive or operate machinery.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

MMF is a category D drug during pregnancy, meaning it can cause harm to the developing fetus. Avoid getting pregnant while taking MMF, and use effective birth control methods. It's also not recommended to breastfeed while taking MMF as it can pass into breast milk.



Children

MMF is not typically used for children, except in specific cases of organ transplantation, where the benefits may outweigh the risks.



Kidney & Liver

People with kidney or liver problems may need dosage adjustments or close monitoring while taking MMF. Discuss any pre-existing conditions with your doctor before starting this medication.
