Sotalol is the active ingredient in medications containing this drug formulation.It is a beta-blocker and a class III antiarrhythmic medication.
Treatment of lifethreatening ventricular arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) like ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation.
Prevention of recurrent ventricular tachycardia.
Management of atrial fibrillation or flutter (rapid heartbeat in the upper chambers of the heart).
Sotalar 80mg Tab (Sotalol) works by blocking the effects of adrenaline (epinephrine) on the heart, slowing down the heart rate and reducing the force of heart contractions. It also prolongs the electrical activity in the heart, helping to control irregular heart rhythms.
Store Sotalol at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it in its original container, tightly closed.
Dosage is determined by your doctor based on your individual medical condition and response to treatment.
Sotalol is usually taken by mouth, with or without food, as directed by your doctor.
Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets. Swallow them whole with a glass of water.
It is important to take Sotalol regularly as prescribed, even if you feel well.
Do not stop taking Sotalol without talking to your doctor.
Serious side effects can occur, including: low blood pressure, heart block, heart failure, and allergic reactions.
Common side effects include: dizziness, fatigue, slow heart rate, shortness of breath, constipation, and diarrhea.

Sotalol may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
Sotalol may harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk. Discuss with your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking Sotalol during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Sotalol is not generally recommended for children.
People with kidney problems may need a lower dose or more frequent monitoring.
Sotalol is processed by the liver. People with liver problems may need a lower dose.
