Treatment of hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood) in hospitalized adults with euvolemic or hypervolemic hyponatremia, particularly those with heart failure, cirrhosis, or syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH).

Shiokem 30mg Tablet (Tolvaptan) is a selective vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist. It blocks the action of vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone) on the kidneys, reducing the reabsorption of water and increasing the excretion of free water in the urine, thereby helping to correct hyponatremia.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.

Dosage should be determined by a healthcare professional and adjusted based on individual patient response and serum sodium levels.

Typically administered orally, with or without food.

Dosage may start low and be gradually increased, as per doctor's prescription.

Increased thirst

Increased urination (polyuria)

Muscle cramps

Elevated liver enzymes

Kidney problems

Severe hyponatremia (rare but potentially fatal).

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking tolvaptan, as it can exacerbate dehydration and side effects.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Tolvaptan may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Tolvaptan should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Consult your doctor.



Children

The safety and effectiveness of tolvaptan in children have not been established.



Kidney

Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Dosage adjustment may be necessary.



Liver

Use with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Monitor liver enzymes regularly.
