Sacubitril/valsartan is a combination medication containing two active ingredients:

Sacubitril: A neprilysin inhibitor that blocks the breakdown of natriuretic peptides, which help lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart.

Valsartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels and raises blood pressure.

Sacubitril/valsartan is primarily prescribed for the treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

It is used to improve survival and reduce the risk of hospitalization in patients with HFrEF.

It may also be used to lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Sacubitril/valsartan works by reducing stress on the heart and lowering blood pressure. Sacubitril inhibits the breakdown of natriuretic peptides, which promote vasodilation, reduce fluid retention, and protect the heart from damage. Valsartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II, which results in vasodilation and lower blood pressure.

Store Sacubitril/valsartan tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

The dosage of Sacubitril/valsartan is individualized and determined by your doctor based on your condition and response to treatment.

It is usually taken twice daily, with or without food.

Your doctor may start you on a lower dose and gradually increase it as needed.

Common side effects include:

Serious side effects are less common but can occur.

Low blood pressure

Dizziness

Headache

Cough

Fatigue

Muscle cramps

Back pain

Kidney problems

Elevated potassium levels

Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects, especially low blood pressure. Limit alcohol consumption while taking Sacubitril/valsartan.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Sacubitril/valsartan can cause dizziness, especially when starting treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Sacubitril/valsartan is not recommended for use during pregnancy. It can harm the developing baby. It is unknown if Sacubitril/valsartan passes into breast milk, and it may harm a breastfeeding infant. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using this medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.



Children

Sacubitril/valsartan is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

People with kidney problems should use Sacubitril/valsartan with caution. It may need to be adjusted based on kidney function.



Liver

People with liver problems should use Sacubitril/valsartan with caution. It may need to be adjusted based on liver function.
