Mefloquine

Hydrochloride is the active ingredient in medications containing mefloquine.

Prevention of malaria in areas where chloroquineresistant malaria is prevalent.

Treatment of uncomplicated malaria in areas where chloroquineresistant malaria is prevalent.

Rumef 250mg Tablet (Mefloquine) is an antimalarial drug that works by preventing the parasite Plasmodium falciparum from multiplying within red blood cells. It inhibits the parasite's growth by interfering with its DNA replication and protein synthesis.

Store mefloquine tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

The dosage of mefloquine varies depending on the individual's age, weight, and the reason for taking the medication. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Mefloquine tablets are typically taken once a week, usually on the same day each week.

For malaria prevention, the medication is usually started 1-2 weeks before travelling to a malaria-prone area and continued for 4 weeks after leaving the area.

For treatment of malaria, mefloquine is typically taken for 3 days.

Alcohol Consumption

While Driving or operating Machinery

Mefloquine can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Mefloquine can harm an unborn baby. It is not recommended for pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you are breastfeeding.



Children

Mefloquine is not recommended for children under the age of 5.



Kidney

Mefloquine is excreted through the kidneys. Individuals with kidney problems may require dose adjustments. Consult your doctor if you have kidney problems.



Liver

Mefloquine can cause liver problems. If you experience symptoms like jaundice, dark urine, or light-colored stools, contact your doctor immediately.
