Risp 1 Tab (Risperidone) is an atypical antipsychotic medication that works by blocking the activity of dopamine and serotonin in the brain. These neurotransmitters are involved in regulating mood, behavior, and thought processes. By blocking these neurotransmitters, risperidone helps to reduce the symptoms of mental health conditions.

Serious side effects: neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a rare but serious condition that can be life-threatening), tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements of the face, tongue, and limbs), prolonged QT interval (an abnormal heart rhythm), increased risk of stroke in elderly patients with dementia.

Common side effects: drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, constipation, weight gain, dry mouth, muscle stiffness, tremors.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the drowsiness and dizziness caused by risperidone. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication.



Driving or Operating Machinery

Risperidone can cause drowsiness and dizziness, which can impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid these activities until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Risperidone can be harmful to a developing fetus. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Risperidone passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor about the risks and benefits of breastfeeding while taking this medication.



Children

Risperidone is not typically prescribed for children under the age of 13, except for the treatment of irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder in children ages 5-17.



Kidney

People with kidney problems may need a lower dose of risperidone.

People with liver problems may need a lower dose of risperidone.
