Atazanavir

A protease inhibitor that prevents hiv from replicating.

Emtricitabine

A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (nrti) that interferes with hiv replication.

Ritonavir

A protease inhibitor used as a booster to increase the levels of atazanavir in the blood.

Tenofovir

A nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (ntrti) that also interferes with hiv replication.

Treatment of HIV1 infection in adults and adolescents (at least 12 years old and weighing at least 35 kg).

This combination drug works by targeting different stages of the HIV life cycle. Atazanavir and Ritonavir inhibit the HIV protease enzyme, preventing the virus from assembling new viral particles. Emtricitabine and Tenofovir inhibit reverse transcriptase, an enzyme essential for HIV to replicate its genetic material.

Store at controlled room temperature 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) in original container. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of the reach of children.

Typically, this combination is taken once daily, with or without food. However, taking with food may reduce the chance of side effects.

Kidney

This medication may affect kidney function. Regular monitoring is needed. Especially monitor Tenofovir related kidney issues.

This medication may affect liver function. Regular monitoring of liver enzymes is required.
