Atazanavir is a protease inhibitor that blocks the activity of HIV-1 protease, an enzyme essential for the virus to replicate. Ritonavir boosts the levels of atazanavir in the body by inhibiting the breakdown of atazanavir, leading to a more effective antiviral effect.

Store the medication in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not flush unused medication down the toilet.

Dosage is typically 300mg of atazanavir once daily with 100mg of ritonavir taken with food

Ensure you take the medication with a meal, preferably a high-fat meal, for optimal absorption

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption while taking atazanavir + ritonavir. Alcohol can interact with the medication and increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Atazanavir + ritonavir can cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Atazanavir + ritonavir can be harmful to a developing fetus and is not recommended for pregnant women. It is also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers as it can pass into breast milk.



Children

Atazanavir + ritonavir is approved for use in children over 6 months old, but dosage adjustments are necessary. Consult with your doctor for appropriate dosage information.
