Oxcarbazepine

Is the active ingredient.

Treatment of partial seizures in adults and children aged 4 years and above.

Treatment of generalized tonicclonic seizures in adults and children aged 6 years and above (usually as add-on therapy).

Xbaren 150mg Tab (Oxcarbazepine) inhibits voltage-gated sodium channels in the neuronal membranes, thus stabilizing neuronal membranes and reducing the excitability of neurons, thereby preventing seizure activity. It's metabolized to its active metabolite, 10,11-dihydro-10-hydroxycarbamazepine (MHD), which also contributes to its anticonvulsant effects.

Store at room temperature (20-25°C) in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medicine after the expiry date.

Dosage is determined by the physician based on individual needs and response. It's usually started at a low dose and gradually increased until the desired effect is achieved.

It's typically administered orally, as tablets or suspension.

Dosage may need adjustments for patients with kidney or liver impairment.

Rare but serious side effects: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (severe skin reaction), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), hepatic failure, pancreatitis, blood disorders.

Common side effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headache, diplopia (double vision).

Less common side effects: Hyponatremia (low sodium levels), rash, ataxia, fatigue, weight gain.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol should be avoided or consumed in moderation as it can potentiate the CNS-depressant effects of oxcarbazepine.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how oxcarbazepine affects you, as it may cause drowsiness or dizziness.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only be considered if the potential benefit outweighs the risks. Consult your doctor.



Children

Dosage and monitoring are crucial for children. Follow the doctor's recommendations.



Kidney

Dose adjustment may be necessary for patients with kidney impairment.
