Buprenorphine

An opioid partial agonist, meaning it binds to opioid receptors in the brain but produces a weaker effect than full opioid agonists like heroin or morphine.

Naloxone

An opioid antagonist, meaning it blocks the effects of opioids. it is included to reverse the effects of buprenorphine if it is taken in excess.

Treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD), including heroin and prescription opioid addiction.

Management of chronic pain in patients with a history of opioid addiction, but only when other pain management options are insufficient.

Buprenorphine binds to opioid receptors in the brain, reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with opioid addiction. It also blocks the effects of other opioids, preventing the 'high' that people seek when using opioids. Naloxone is present to reverse any accidental overdose of buprenorphine.

Store at room temperature, away from heat, light, and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not flush unused medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

Dosage is determined by your doctor and is individualized based on your medical history and response to treatment.

Buprenorphine + naloxone is usually taken under the tongue (sublingual) or dissolved in the mouth.

Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.

Do not use more than prescribed or for a longer duration than recommended by your doctor.

Your doctor may adjust your dose over time.

Serious side effects are possible, including: respiratory depression (slowed breathing), overdose, and allergic reactions.

Common side effects include: constipation, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, sweating, and dry mouth.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects, including drowsiness and respiratory depression. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

This medication can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Buprenorphine + naloxone can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication while pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

This medication is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Liver

Liver disease may affect how your body processes this medication. Your doctor may adjust your dose based on your liver function.
