Pirfenidone

Is the active ingredient in this medication.

Pirfenidone is used to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a serious lung disease that causes scarring in the lungs.

Pirfenex 200mg Tab (Pirfenidone) is thought to work by reducing inflammation and fibrosis in the lungs. It is not fully understood how it works, but it may inhibit the production of certain substances that contribute to lung scarring.

Store Pirfenidone at room temperature, between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C). Keep it in its original container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of Pirfenidone will be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs.

It is typically taken three times a day with food.

You should swallow the capsules whole, do not crush, chew, or break them.

The most common side effects of Pirfenidone include:

Nausea

Diarrhea

Loss of appetite

Dizziness

Rash

Fatigue

Headache

Joint pain

Liver problems (rare)

Increased risk of skin cancer (rare)

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Pirfenidone, as it can increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Pirfenidone may cause dizziness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Pirfenidone is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as it may harm the fetus or infant. Talk to your doctor about alternative treatments.



Children

Pirfenidone is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Patients with kidney problems may need to take a lower dose of Pirfenidone.



Liver

Pirfenidone can cause liver damage, so your doctor may monitor your liver function while you are taking this medication.
