Tourette's syndrome (tics)

Severe cases of chronic schizophrenia in adults when other treatments have failed.

Pimoz 4mg Tab (Pimozide) is an antipsychotic medication that works by blocking the action of dopamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain. This helps to reduce the symptoms of Tourette's syndrome and schizophrenia.

Store pimozide at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of pimozide will vary depending on your condition and how you respond to the medication. Your doctor will determine the best dosage for you.

Pimozide is usually taken by mouth, with or without food.

Do not stop taking pimozide suddenly without talking to your doctor. Doing so may cause withdrawal symptoms.

Common side effects of pimozide include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and weight gain.

Serious side effects can occur, including:

Extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS): These are movement disorders that can include muscle stiffness, tremors, restlessness, and difficulty moving.

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS): A rare but serious condition that can cause fever, muscle rigidity, confusion, and changes in blood pressure.

Prolonged QT interval (an abnormality on an electrocardiogram [ECG]) which can lead to an irregular heartbeat.

Tardive dyskinesia: Involuntary movements of the tongue, face, mouth, and limbs that can be permanent.

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol while taking pimozide, as it can increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Pimozide can cause drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Pimozide should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. It is not known if pimozide passes into breast milk. Discuss with your doctor about whether it's safe for you to breastfeed while taking this medication.



Children

Pimozide is not approved for use in children under 12 years of age.



Kidney

Pimozide may need to be used cautiously in people with kidney problems.



Liver

Pimozide may need to be used cautiously in people with liver problems.
