Pimaverse Tab (Pimavanserin) is an atypical antipsychotic that works by blocking the activity of certain receptors in the brain, specifically serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. This helps to reduce the symptoms of hallucinations and delusions.
Store pimavanserin at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Keep it in the original container, tightly closed, and away from light and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
The usual starting dose is 34 mg once daily, taken with or without food. Your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your response to the medication.
It is important to take pimavanserin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better. Sudden discontinuation may cause withdrawal symptoms.
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth, and fatigue. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own.
Serious side effects can occur, including: increased risk of death in older adults with dementia-related psychosis, movement disorders, and high blood sugar. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these side effects.
Avoid alcohol while taking pimavanserin. It can increase the risk of drowsiness and dizziness.
Pimavanserin can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and other side effects that may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how pimavanserin affects you.
It is not known if pimavanserin is safe to use during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not recommended to take pimavanserin if you are breastfeeding.
Pimavanserin is not approved for use in children.
Your doctor may need to adjust your dose of pimavanserin if you have kidney or liver problems.
