Gatifloxacin is the active ingredient in this medication.It belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones.It works by killing bacteria that cause infections.
Gatifloxacin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:
Sinusitis (infection of the sinuses)
Bronchitis (infection of the airways)
Pneumonia (infection of the lungs)
Skin infections
Urinary tract infections
Prostatitis (infection of the prostate gland)
Gatiquin Eye Oint 5gm (Gatifloxacin) works by interfering with the bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase, which is essential for bacterial DNA replication. By inhibiting this enzyme, gatifloxacin prevents bacteria from multiplying and ultimately kills them.
Store gatifloxacin at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children.
The dosage and duration of treatment will vary depending on the type of infection you have and your individual needs.
Take gatifloxacin exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Do not stop taking gatifloxacin even if you feel better, as this could lead to a recurrence of the infection.
It's usually taken once or twice a day, either with or without food.
Common side effects of gatifloxacin include:
Nausea
Diarrhea
Vomiting
Headache
Dizziness
Stomach pain
Insomnia
Rash
Itching
Avoid consuming alcohol while taking gatifloxacin, as it can increase the risk of side effects.
Gatifloxacin can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Gatifloxacin should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. It is unknown if gatifloxacin passes into breast milk, so discuss the risks with your doctor if breastfeeding.
Gatifloxacin is not recommended for children under 18 years old.
If you have kidney problems, your doctor may need to adjust your dose of gatifloxacin.
