Desidustat

Desidustat is the active ingredient in the medication.It is a hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor.It is available in tablet form for oral administration.

Desidustat is used to treat anemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis.

Oxemia 50 Tab (Desidustat) works by increasing the production of erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells. It does this by inhibiting the enzyme prolyl hydroxylase, which normally degrades HIF. By inhibiting this enzyme, HIF levels increase, leading to increased EPO production and ultimately, increased red blood cell production.

Store desidustat tablets at room temperature, between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F). Keep desidustat tablets in their original container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of desidustat is determined by your doctor and will depend on your individual needs.

It is typically taken once daily with or without food.

It is important to take desidustat exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Do not stop taking desidustat without talking to your doctor.

The most common side effects of desidustat include nausea, diarrhea, headache, and hypertension (high blood pressure).

Serious side effects, while less common, can occur. These may include allergic reactions, heart problems, and blood clots.

Alcohol Consumption

It is recommended to avoid alcohol while taking desidustat, as it can increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Desidustat may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

It is not known if desidustat is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Talk to your doctor before taking desidustat if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.



Children

Desidustat is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Desidustat is specifically indicated for patients with CKD. It is not recommended for individuals with normal kidney function.



Liver

Desidustat may be used in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, but caution is advised. It is not recommended for individuals with severe liver impairment.
