Saxagliptin

Saxagliptin is the active ingredient in medications like Onglyza, Kombiglyze XR, and Qtern.It belongs to a class of drugs called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors.Saxagliptin is typically available in tablet form for oral administration.

Saxagliptin is used in combination with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

It may be used alone or with other diabetes medications.

Onglyza 5mg Tab (Saxagliptin) works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones naturally help the body produce more insulin after meals and reduce the production of glucagon (a hormone that increases blood sugar). This ultimately leads to improved blood sugar control.

Store Saxagliptin tablets at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F), in a dry place.

The recommended starting dose of Saxagliptin is 5 mg once daily.

Your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your individual needs and response to treatment.

Take Saxagliptin with or without food.

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

Common side effects of Saxagliptin include upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and nasopharyngitis.

Less common side effects include pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), hypersensitivity reactions, and joint pain.

Serious side effects are rare but can include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and allergic reactions.

Alcohol Consumption

Saxagliptin may increase the risk of low blood sugar, particularly if you consume alcohol.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Saxagliptin may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Saxagliptin is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits.



Children

Saxagliptin is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Saxagliptin is generally safe for people with kidney problems, but your doctor may need to adjust your dosage.
