Is the active ingredient in medications like onglyza and kombiglyze xr.
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control.
May be used in combination with other diabetes medications such as metformin, insulin, or thiazolidinediones.
Onglyza 2.5mg Tab (Saxagliptin) is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by increasing the levels of incretins (GLP-1 and GIP), hormones that stimulate insulin release from the pancreas in response to food intake and suppress glucagon secretion. This results in improved glucose control.
Store at room temperature (20°C to 25°C or 68°F to 77°F) away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
Dosage should be determined by your physician based on your individual needs and response to treatment.
Typically, the recommended starting dose is 5mg once daily.
The medication may be taken with or without food.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – especially when used in combination with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas.
Upper respiratory tract infection

Nasopharyngitis
Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)
Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Moderate alcohol intake should be discussed with your doctor.
Saxagliptin does not typically impair driving or operating machinery, but hypoglycemia can affect alertness. If you experience hypoglycemia, avoid driving or operating machinery until symptoms subside.
The safety of saxagliptin during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. Consult your doctor before using saxagliptin if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
Saxagliptin is not approved for use in children.
Dose adjustment may be needed for patients with moderate to severe kidney disease. Renal function should be monitored.
Caution is advised in patients with moderate to severe liver impairment.
