Olanzapine

Is the active ingredient in this medication.

Treatment of schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (13 years and older).

Treatment of acute manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults.

Treatment of bipolar disorder to prevent recurrent manic episodes in adults.

Olansys 15mg Tablet (Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic that works by blocking the action of certain natural chemicals in the brain, including dopamine and serotonin. It is thought to help restore the balance of these chemicals in the brain, which may help to improve symptoms of mental illness.

Store Olanzapine at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius (59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit), away from light and moisture.

The dosage of Olanzapine will be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and medical history.

Olanzapine is typically taken by mouth once a day.

It may be taken with or without food.

Do not crush, break, or chew the tablets. Swallow them whole.

Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and do not change your dosage or stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor.

Serious side effects are possible and may include:

Metabolic syndrome (increased risk of high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure).

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a life-threatening condition that can cause high fever, muscle stiffness, confusion, and changes in blood pressure and heart rate).

Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision.

Extrapyramidal symptoms (muscle stiffness, tremors, restlessness, and involuntary movements).

Seizures.

Stroke.

Blood clots.

High blood sugar levels.

Changes in cholesterol levels.

Heart problems.

Liver problems.

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol while taking Olanzapine as it can increase the risk of drowsiness and other side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Olanzapine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

It is not recommended to take Olanzapine during pregnancy as it can harm the unborn baby. Discuss with your doctor about alternative medications and the risks associated with Olanzapine. Olanzapine passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Do not breastfeed while taking Olanzapine.



Children

Olanzapine is not recommended for children under 13 years old.



Kidney

Olanzapine is mainly metabolized in the liver, and renal impairment does not significantly impact its elimination. However, caution is advised in patients with severe renal impairment.



Liver

Olanzapine is primarily metabolized by the liver. Use with caution in patients with moderate or severe liver disease. Dosage adjustment may be necessary.
