Cetilistat is a prescription medication used for weight management in adults with obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or greater) who have not achieved adequate weight loss through diet and exercise alone.
It is often used in conjunction with a reducedcalorie diet and increased physical activity.
Obesave 120 Tab (Cetilistat) is a pancreatic lipase inhibitor. It works by blocking the absorption of dietary fat in the intestines. When fat is not absorbed, it is excreted in the stool. This results in a reduction in calorie intake, leading to weight loss.
Store cetilistat at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C). Protect from moisture.
The usual starting dose of cetilistat is 60 mg taken three times a day with meals.
Your doctor may adjust your dose based on your response to treatment.
Take cetilistat exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The most common side effects of cetilistat include diarrhea, oily stools, flatulence (gas), and abdominal pain.
More serious side effects can occur, but are less common. These include liver problems, pancreatitis, and allergic reactions.
Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from cetilistat. Avoid or limit alcohol intake while taking this medication.
Cetilistat may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
It is not known if cetilistat is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Cetilistat is not approved for use in children.
Cetilistat is primarily eliminated by the liver, and kidney function is not a major factor in its elimination. However, caution should be exercised in patients with severe renal impairment.
Cetilistat can cause liver problems, including elevated liver enzymes. It is important to monitor your liver function while taking this medication. Your doctor may order blood tests to check your liver function.
