Calcium Leucovorin

Is a formulation containing leucovorin calcium, a synthetic form of folinic acid (a vitamin b9 derivative).

Prevention and treatment of methotrexate toxicity (highdose methotrexate chemotherapy).

Treatment of megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency (rarely used for this purpose due to the availability of other folates).

Adjunctive therapy in some types of chemotherapy regimens (specified by oncologist).

Leucovorin acts as a reduced folate, bypassing the enzymatic step blocked by methotrexate. It facilitates the formation of thymidylate and purines, crucial for DNA synthesis and cell replication, thereby rescuing normal cells from the toxic effects of methotrexate while enhancing its cytotoxic effect on rapidly dividing cancer cells.

Store at room temperature (20-25°C), protected from light and moisture. Discard any unused portion after the expiry date.

Dosage is highly variable and depends on the indication, patient's condition, and the specific treatment protocol. It is always determined and administered by a healthcare professional.

Administration routes include intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), and oral.
