Sodium Valproate

Sodium valproate is the sodium salt of valproic acid.Different formulations may contain additional inactive ingredients like fillers, binders, and coatings.

Epilepsy (seizures): Treatment and prevention of various seizure types.

Bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness): Treatment of manic episodes.

Migraine prevention: Reduction in the frequency and severity of migraine headaches.

Other neurological disorders: In some cases, used off-label for other neurological conditions, always under physician supervision.

The exact mechanism isn't fully understood, but Napilex Syp 100ml (Sodium Valproate) is thought to increase the levels of the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the brain. GABA inhibits nerve transmission, reducing the excitability of neurons and thus preventing seizures and stabilizing mood.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Dispose of expired medication properly according to local regulations.

Dosage is determined by the physician based on the patient's age, weight, condition, and response to treatment.

It's typically administered orally, either as tablets, capsules, or liquid suspensions.

Alcohol Consumption

While Driving or operating Machinery

Sodium valproate may cause drowsiness or dizziness; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Sodium valproate carries a significant risk of birth defects and should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and under close medical supervision. It can also pass into breast milk and may harm the nursing infant. Consult your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking this medication.



Children

Dosage needs to be carefully adjusted for children. Close monitoring is vital.



Kidney

Kidney function should be monitored, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney disease. Dosage adjustments may be necessary.



Liver

Liver function tests should be conducted regularly, especially at the start of treatment and during the first six months. Discontinue use immediately if liver problems develop.
