Pyridostigmine

Bromide is the active ingredient in medications containing this drug formulation.

Myasthenia gravis (MG): A chronic autoimmune disease that causes weakness in skeletal muscles.

Postoperative ileus: A condition where the intestines stop moving normally after surgery.

Myestin 60mg Tab (Pyridostigmine) bromide is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by blocking the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that helps muscles contract. By preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine, pyridostigmine allows for more acetylcholine to be available at the neuromuscular junction, leading to improved muscle strength and function.

Store pyridostigmine at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Dosage is individualized based on the patient's condition and response to treatment.

Pyridostigmine is typically taken by mouth, usually 3-4 times per day.

The medication should be taken with or after meals to minimize stomach upset.

It's important to take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor and to follow the instructions on the medication label carefully.

Do not adjust the dosage or stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Nausea

Salivation

Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

Bronchospasm (wheezing or difficulty breathing)

Allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, or hives

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol may worsen the side effects of pyridostigmine. Avoid or limit alcohol consumption while taking this medication.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Pyridostigmine can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Pyridostigmine should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus. It is not known if pyridostigmine passes into breast milk, so talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of breastfeeding while taking this medication.



Children

Pyridostigmine is not typically prescribed for children.



Kidney

Patients with kidney disease may require dosage adjustments.



Liver

Pyridostigmine is metabolized by the liver. Patients with liver disease may require dosage adjustments.
