Metronidazole

Metronidazole is the active ingredient in this medication.It belongs to a class of drugs called nitroimidazole antibacterials.

Treatment of bacterial infections, including:

Bacterial vaginosis

Trichomoniasis

Giardiasis (intestinal infection)

Amebiasis (intestinal infection)

Certain skin infections

Some stomach and bowel infections

Prevention of postoperative infections after certain surgeries.

Metrogyl 2%30gm Gel (Metronidazole) works by damaging the DNA of bacteria, preventing them from multiplying and causing further infection.

Store metronidazole at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

The dosage and duration of treatment will vary depending on the type and severity of your infection.

Always take this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes.

Do not stop taking metronidazole before the prescribed course is complete, even if you start to feel better.

Metronidazole is typically taken by mouth, either as tablets, capsules, or oral suspension.

Some forms of metronidazole may also be administered intravenously (directly into a vein).

You can take metronidazole with or without food.

Nausea

Loss of appetite

Headache

Dizziness

Metallic taste in the mouth

Dark urine

Skin rash

Itching

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking metronidazole. This can cause severe side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, and flushing.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Metronidazole can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Metronidazole can pass into breast milk and may harm a developing baby. It should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of using metronidazole if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

Metronidazole is not recommended for children under 12 years of age unless specifically prescribed by a doctor.



Kidney

People with kidney problems may need to have their dosage adjusted. Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.



Liver

Metronidazole can cause liver damage in rare cases. If you experience symptoms of liver problems, such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or abdominal pain, contact your doctor immediately.
