An antimalarial drug that works by preventing the parasite from multiplying.

Sulphadoxine

A sulfa drug that works by preventing the parasite from making essential nutrients.

Prevention of malaria in areas where chloroquineresistant Plasmodium falciparum is prevalent.

Treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in areas where chloroquineresistant strains are common.

Malatos 25mg/500mg Tablet (Pyrimethamine + Sulphadoxine) work together to inhibit the growth and multiplication of the malaria parasite. Pyrimethamine blocks the production of dihydrofolate reductase, an enzyme essential for the parasite's DNA synthesis. Sulphadoxine blocks the production of dihydropteroate synthetase, another enzyme necessary for the parasite's folate metabolism.

Store the medication in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.

The dosage of pyrimethamine and sulphadoxine varies depending on the age, weight, and medical condition of the patient.

It is usually taken as a single dose, either once a week or once a month, depending on the indication.

Always follow your doctor's instructions carefully and do not take more or less than prescribed.

It is important to take the full course of treatment, even if you feel better, to prevent the parasite from becoming resistant to the medication.

Alcohol Consumption

It is generally safe to consume alcohol while taking pyrimethamine and sulphadoxine, but it is best to consult with your doctor to make sure it is appropriate in your individual case.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Pyrimethamine and sulphadoxine can cause dizziness and drowsiness. If you experience these side effects, avoid driving or operating machinery until they subside.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Pyrimethamine and sulphadoxine can be harmful to a developing fetus. It is not recommended for pregnant women unless the benefits outweigh the risks. It is also not recommended for breastfeeding women.



Children

Pyrimethamine and sulphadoxine is not typically prescribed for children unless the benefits outweigh the risks.



Kidney

Patients with kidney disease should use this medication with caution, as it can accumulate in the body and increase the risk of side effects.



Liver

Patients with liver disease should use this medication with caution, as it can be processed by the liver and may worsen liver function.
