Cefepime

Is a type of antibiotic called a cephalosporin.

Treatment of serious infections caused by bacteria susceptible to cefepime and tazobactam.

Used for infections affecting the lungs (pneumonia), skin, urinary tract, and abdomen.

May be used to treat certain types of bacterial meningitis.

Cefepime works by killing bacteria by interfering with their ability to build cell walls. Tazobactam prevents certain bacteria from breaking down cefepime, allowing it to work more effectively.

Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage and frequency of administration vary depending on the severity of your infection, your age, and your kidney function.

This medication is usually given as an intravenous (IV) injection or infusion.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage and duration of treatment.

Do not stop taking this medication before completing the full course of treatment, even if you start to feel better.

Missing doses can lead to resistance and the infection may return.

Serious side effects are rare but can include: allergic reactions, seizures, and liver problems.

Common side effects include: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, rash, and pain at the injection site.

Alcohol Consumption

Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication as it can increase the risk of side effects.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. This medication may not be safe for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.



Children

This medication is not typically used in children, but your doctor may prescribe it if necessary.



Kidney

This medication is eliminated from the body through the kidneys. If you have kidney problems, your doctor may need to adjust your dosage.



Liver

This medication may affect your liver. Your doctor may monitor your liver function during treatment.
