Pyrazinamide

Is an antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis (tb).

Pyrazinamide is used in combination with other antibiotics to treat active tuberculosis infection in adults and children.

Macrozide 1000mg Tab (Pyrazinamide) is a prodrug that is converted into its active form in the body. It is believed to work by interfering with the synthesis of mycolic acids, which are essential components of the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Store pyrazinamide tablets at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Keep the tablets in their original container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.

The dosage of pyrazinamide is determined by your doctor and depends on your age, weight, and the severity of your infection.

Pyrazinamide is typically taken by mouth with food or milk.

It is important to take pyrazinamide exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, and joint pain.

Less common but serious side effects can include liver damage, gout, and pancreatitis.

Alcohol Consumption

Drinking alcohol while taking pyrazinamide may increase the risk of liver damage.



While Driving or operating Machinery

Pyrazinamide may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

It is not known if pyrazinamide is safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor before taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

The safety and effectiveness of pyrazinamide in children have not been established.



Kidney

Pyrazinamide can be harmful to people with kidney problems.



Liver

Pyrazinamide can cause liver damage. Your doctor will monitor your liver function while you are taking this medication.
