Magnesium Valproate

Magnesium valproate is the magnesium salt of valproic acid.It contains magnesium ions and the active pharmaceutical ingredient valproic acid.

The exact mechanism isn't fully understood, but valproic acid is believed to increase levels of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, which reduces neuronal excitability and thus helps control seizures and mood swings.

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medication according to your pharmacist's or doctor's instructions.

Dosage is determined by your doctor based on your age, weight, and medical condition.

It's typically taken orally, usually once or twice daily with or without food.

Children

Dosage is adjusted based on the child's weight and condition. Close monitoring is necessary.



Kidney

May need dosage adjustments in patients with kidney problems.



Liver
