Gemfibrozil

Gemfibrozil is the active ingredient in the medication.It belongs to a class of drugs called fibrates.

Gemfibrozil is used to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides in adults with high cholesterol levels, especially those who have not responded well to diet and exercise alone.

It may also be used in combination with other cholesterollowering medications.

It is typically prescribed for patients with high levels of triglycerides, a type of fat found in the blood.

Lopid 300mg Cap (Gemfibrozil) works by increasing the activity of an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase, which helps break down triglycerides in the blood. This reduces the levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the 'bad' cholesterol) while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the 'good' cholesterol).
