Prevents the breakdown of levodopa in the bloodstream, allowing more levodopa to reach the brain and increase its effectiveness.
Treatment of Parkinson's disease symptoms, such as tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia (slow movement), and postural instability.
Management of Parkinsonism caused by other neurological conditions.
Levodopa crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa inhibits the peripheral decarboxylation of levodopa, increasing the amount of levodopa that reaches the brain and reducing side effects associated with peripheral dopamine.
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.
Dosage is individualized based on patient response and tolerance. It typically starts low and is gradually increased.
Medication is usually taken orally with or without food.

Alcohol can exacerbate some side effects, such as nausea and dizziness. Limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication.
Levodopa/Carbidopa can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Use is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential risks to the fetus or infant. Discuss with your doctor if pregnancy is planned or suspected.
Generally not used in children unless specifically indicated by a physician.
Dosage adjustment may be needed for individuals with kidney impairment. Your physician will monitor your kidney function closely.
Levodopa/Carbidopa is primarily metabolized in the kidneys, thus hepatic impairment may require cautious dosing but is not typically a primary contraindication. Close monitoring of treatment response is needed.
