Memantine

Memantine is the active ingredient in the medication.It is available in various forms such as tablets, capsules, oral solution, and extended-release tablets.

May be used to slow the progression of cognitive decline and improve symptoms like memory loss, confusion, and difficulty with thinking and reasoning.

Larentine 10mg Tab (Memantine) works by blocking the effects of a chemical called glutamate in the brain. Glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter that is involved in learning and memory. In people with Alzheimer's disease, there is an overabundance of glutamate in the brain, which can damage brain cells. Memantine helps to regulate glutamate levels, reducing brain cell damage and improving cognitive function.

Store Memantine at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not flush medication down the toilet or pour it into a drain unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

The dosage of Memantine is typically started at a low dose and gradually increased over several weeks until the optimal dose is reached.

It is usually taken once or twice daily with or without food.

The specific dosage and frequency will be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.

Do not take more or less than the prescribed dose. Do not stop taking Memantine without talking to your doctor.

Serious side effects can occur, such as hallucinations, agitation, and seizures.

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, constipation, nausea, and confusion.

Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can interact with Memantine and increase the risk of side effects. Limit alcohol consumption or avoid it altogether while taking this medication.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

Memantine can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you. It is important to avoid activities that require alertness and coordination.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

It is not recommended to take Memantine during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.



Children

Memantine is not approved for use in children.



Kidney

Memantine may be adjusted or discontinued in patients with kidney problems. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function while you are taking this medication.



Liver

Memantine may be adjusted or discontinued in patients with liver problems. Your doctor will monitor your liver function while you are taking this medication.
