Saxagliptin

A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (dpp-4) inhibitor that helps the body release more insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the amount of glucose the liver produces.

Metformin

A biguanide that works in several ways to lower blood sugar, including reducing glucose production by the liver and improving insulin sensitivity.

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially those who did not achieve adequate glycemic control with metformin alone.

Saxagliptin inhibits DPP-4, an enzyme that breaks down incretins (hormones that stimulate insulin release). This leads to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon secretion, ultimately lowering blood glucose levels. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, enhances insulin sensitivity, and improves glucose uptake by peripheral tissues.

It's typically started at a lower dose and gradually increased as tolerated.

Rare but serious side effects include lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the blood), pancreatitis, and allergic reactions.

Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, upper respiratory tract infection.

Alcohol Consumption

Limit alcohol intake as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis.



While Driving or Operating Machinery

May cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.



Pregnant & Breastfeeding Women

Use is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor.
